One subscription year everywhere: the same number of paid tickets at the same price every month, one order per ticket, each paid with a standard EEA card. The organizer carries every fee, and guests pay the same price everywhere.
Worked example for an Austrian organizer that is a business without input VAT deduction (say, a small business under § 6(1) Z27 UStG), gives its providers no VAT ID and sells tickets without VAT. VAT on fees is a cost to it; where a provider charges no VAT, any Austrian reverse-charge VAT due, at 20%, is included. The example holds only while ticket revenue stays VAT-free, under the small-business exemption up to €55,000 a year. Unconfirmed tax or payment charges are marked unknown and are not treated as zero.
GatherMatter e.U. currently charges no VAT on its own platform fees and subscriptions under the small-business exemption in § 6(1) Z27 UStG.
Assumptions
Gathermatter Pro: the subscription is included as twelve monthly payments, €828.00 in total. Paid annually it costs €490.00 per subscription year.
Gathermatter Pro: the allowance of €50,000 in ticket revenue applies per subscription year and is used up by this year’s sales; revenue above it carries 1%.
Gathermatter: Free includes payment processing in the fee. Pro adds it at the agreed fixed rate: 1.5% + €0.25 per card, Apple Pay or Google Pay payment (1.6% + €0.25 per EPS payment), plus a 20% cost share for non-deductible reverse-charge VAT while the small-business exemption applies. This is not VAT shown on our invoice.
pretix: 2.5% of the net price, at most €15.00, plus the payment provider. This example uses Stripe with standard EEA cards (1.5% + €0.25 per payment). The tax comparison applies only to the expressly described organizer profile.
pretix: the fee is plus VAT. Its pricing page states that EU customers without a valid VAT ID are charged German VAT, so the math adds 19%. Tax treatment for the Austrian recipient must be checked separately.
pretix: any Austrian VAT of 20% that the organizer owes under the reverse charge on the fees of Stripe is included as a cost; how this applies to an individual organizer must be checked separately.
